Event Details

For those who prefer to participate in our programs in-person, we will be showing our Zoom presentation in the Large Meeting Room on the screen. Keep in mind that our presenter will not be at the Library.

Masks are required in the Library. Registration is preferred, but not required. Walk-ins welcomed. In the event of inclement weather, call before you come.

Born in Harlem in 1930 and still productive and relevant today, Faith Ringgold once said, “Your job is to tell your story. Your story has to come out of your life, your environment, who you are, where you come from.” Her provocative and politically honest work, which reimagines art history, is born of that commitment. Best known for her story quilts, she also creates politically charged paintings, prints, sculptures, public art, performance art, and more. And at 91, she still says there is “a lot of work left to do.” Faith Ringgold: Artist, Author, Educator, Organizer will give you an in-depth look at this formidable woman whose life and works continue to astonish art lovers around the world. It will prepare you well to enjoy the New Museum’s retrospective exhibition, Faith Ringgold: American People that opens in New York on February 17, 2022.

Presented by Janet Cohen Mandel via Zoom. Register online.
